Papagayo and Liberia
The Papagayo area of the Guanacaste Province is known as Costa Rica’s premier luxury beach destination. Papagayo is a coastal sanctuary of sun-drenched hills and hidden coves, with exceptionally calm waters, and world-class resorts.
The region is anchored by the inland city of Liberia and its international airport (airport code “LIR”). From the airport, the area branches into three distinct vibes: the city, conveniently located near the airport with modern conveniences; the private, ultra-luxury sanctuary of the Papagayo Peninsula; and the open, welcoming local beach towns, such as Playa Hermosa, Playa Panama, and Playas del Coco.
